Tarot Deck: Cards and Meanings

The Tarot Deck is a set of cards used in the practice of tarot, a form of divination that has been used for centuries. The Tarot consists of 78 cards, divided into two main groups: the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana.

1. Major Arcana:
   • These are 22 cards numbered 0 through 21, each with a specific name.
   • Each card represents an archetype or an important lesson in life.
   • Some of the best known cards include "The Fool", "The Magician", "The Empress", "Death" and "The Sun".
   • The Major Arcana are often associated with more significant and spiritual events and situations.
2. Minor Arcana:
   • These make up the rest of the cards and are divided into four suits: Swords, Cups, Clubs and Clubs (also called Pentacles in some decks).
   • Each suit consists of 14 cards numbered from 1 to 10 and four court cards: Page, Knight, Queen and King.
   • The Minor Arcana tend to represent more everyday, mundane aspects of life.
3. The use of the Deck:
   • In a tarot reading, the reader chooses a deck and performs a specific spread of cards according to the selected layout.
   • The cards are interpreted according to their symbolism, position in the spread and their relationship to other cards.
   • The interpretation may include aspects of the past, present and future, as well as emotional, spiritual and practical aspects of the querent's life.
4. Varieties of Decks:
   • There are many variations of the tarot deck, and different decks may have slightly different symbologies.
   • The Rider-Waite Tarot is one of the best known and most widely used decks, but there are many others, such as the Thoth Tarot, the Tarot of Marseilles, and several modern thematic decks.
